Exhibition | "Beguiling Beni: Safflower Red in Japanese Fashion" at Victoria and Albert Museum

June 2, 2022 – March 31, 2024

A special exhibition focusing on "Beni (safflower) and Japanese Fashion" is being held at the V&A Museum. This exhibition is being held in the permanent Japan Corner (Toshiba Gallery) and includes textiles dyed in Beni and ukiyoe prints related to the history of Japanese cosmetics. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Noritaka Tachibana's "Heel-less Shoes" dyed in Beni. This work was dyed using the precious Beni dye from the last Beni shop in Japan, Isehan Honten. These works are in the permanent collection of the V&A Museum.
